While every attempt will be made to keep the school open, there may be occasions when it is necessary to close for health and safety reasons.

In the event of having to close the school during the working day due to a failure of
services of severe weather, the following procedures will apply:-

  • Parents/carers will be informed of the closure by means of a text message sent via Group Call.
  • Details of the closure will be posted on the front page of the school website.
  • Students should contact a parent/carer to confirm that they are allowed to leave the school site.  This may be done by students using their mobile phones, or by reporting to the staff in the main school office so that a phone call can be made on their behalf.
  • Any student who is unable to contact a parent/carer to confirm that they may leave the site should remain in school and should report to the main hall.  This includes
students who may have to wait for parents/carers to collect them from school.
  • If possible, arrangements will be made for the school taxis to come early to collect
students.  If this cannot be arranged, students who need to travel home by taxi must
remain in the school hall until the taxis arrive.
  • Parents/carers will be updated on the situation regarding the re-opening of the school by text message via Group Call.  Updates will also be place on the school website.

In the event of the school not being able to open due to severe weather or failure of
services the following procedure will apply:-

  • The decision to close will be made no later than 7.45am where possible on the morning in question.
  • Parents/carers will be informed of the closure by means of a text message sent via Group Call.
  • Details of the closure will be posted on the front page of the school website.
  • Details of the school closure will be broadcast on local radio - BBC Radio Swindon and Heart FM.
  • A list of schools will be posted on the Heart FM website (www.heart.co.uk)
  • Details of the school closure will be displayed in local shop windows.
  • Parents/carers will be updated on the situation regarding the re-opening of the school by text message via Group Call.  Updates will also be placed on the school website.
  • If information about closure is not received by the means indicated above, the school will be open and operating as normal.
  • Parents/carers are requested not to telephone the school early in the morning to check what is happening as too many incoming calls may prevent us making the necessary arrangements to inform you of the situation.

As the use of text messaging will be the main way of informing parents/carers about school closures, it is particularly important that the school has the correct details for mobile phone contact numbers.

If a mobile number is changed, please inform the school as soon as possible.
