Student Responsibility

At Kingsdown we firmly believe in giving our students a wide range of experiences. Students are encouraged to take up positions of responsibility right from year 7. This begins with the election of representatives for the Year Council and then the representatives for the School Council. These student bodies are vital in helping shape the school development plan. The School Council is an important student voice and has initiated much change at Kingsdown since its inception.

Students are encouraged to take on other important roles such as being a Peer Mentor. At present, year 9 students mentor the incoming students and help them settle in. This has proved a rewarding experience for both the mentees and the student mentor.

The ever popular Learning Resource Centre (LRC) relies on its hard working Student Librarians to help manage morning break and lunch break.

One of the more popular jobs is the chance to become Office Messengers in year 9. As our best ambassadors, students can often be seen showing visitors around the site and visitors often complement then on their professionalism and maturity.

In year 11 we have a very popular prefect system with over 100 students. This includes a very rigorous procedure to elect a Head Boy and Head Girl as well as Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl.

There is also an election for 6 House Captains who are chosen to motivate their houses (Coate, Lydiard and Stanton) in various house competitions.

Hard work pays off
