Humanities - Religious Studies

Religious Education is part of the Humanities department at Kingsdown. Through RE we aim to educate students to understand and reflect upon different religions and their place within the community. Pupils will consider how people have answered questions about the meaning and purpose of existence and study the ways in which these answers shape attitudes to life.

In accordance with the Swindon Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education, emphasis will be placed on understanding the nature of religious beliefs and practices and their importance and influence in the lives of believers.

RE at Kingsdown allows students to develop skills, concepts and attitudes which help to promote awareness of personal, social and global beliefs and issues in modern society. Students are encouraged to develop their own responses to these issues.

Students in years 7 to 9 receive two periods of RE over the two week timetable. Kingsdown offers a full course in Philosophy and Applied Ethics at GCSE Level and Religious Studies forms part of the 8 week MEC (Modular Enrichment Course) cycle for those that do not continue study after year 9.
