The Modern Foreign Languages Faculty is a committed and successful team who share high expectations and a common sense of purpose. We aim to give students an understanding of other people, their culture and their language in a modern world.

Languages at Key Stage 3
The emphasis at KS3 is on communicating, gaining confidence and building skills that are transferable between languages with Year 7 students experiencing French, German and Spanish. In year 8 and 9 they continue with either one or two of these languages.

Foreign language assistants are employed by the school and students are able to practise their conversation skills with a native speaker.

The faculty has its own dedicated ICT suite where students have one lesson per fortnight, and work independently using our subscription to interactive websites and our wealth of electronic resources and audio files.

Regular trips abroad are arranged to help students gain an insight into the culture of the countries studied. Year 7 students visit the traditional German Christmas markets and year 8 have the opportunity to stay for 4 days in France or Germany.

Languages at Key Stage 4
We offer all three languages at GCSE and greatly encourage students to learn a language. Employers value the ability to communicate and appreciate the team work, organisation skills and confidence developed through language learning.

Languages combine well with all subjects and are very popular with those considering studying Business Studies, Economics, Law and Media Studies. Students follow a two year Edexcel course and are assessed on their abilities in Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing equally. In year 10 students have an opportunity to take part in our language immersion days which are held at Braeside Educational centre and are fun and memorable interactive days.
