Introduction Geography is about the World around us. At Kingsdown School we teach students about the physical processes that shape our planet, the human actions that influence our lives, and the environmental challenges faced by the human race and planet earth. Whilst learning about Geography students at Kingsdown develop a range of skills including literacy, numeracy, graph skills, and ICT. Students will also develop the notion of empathy and global citizenship through the study of Geography at Kingsdown School.

Key Stage 3 Geography
In Years 7, 8, and 9 students will have two lessons per fortnight. They will be assessed once per term and a level will be awarded to students in order that progress can be regularly tracked. Homework will be set at regular intervals to consolidate information and to foster the discipline of independent learning. Topics at Key stage 3 include :

In Year 7 there is the option of a fieldtrip to London. The trip includes a visit to the Natural History Museum, an interactive presentation on plate tectonics, and a Flight on the London Eye.

Key Stage 4 Geography
Students will follow the Edexcel A specification. At present this is a modular GCSE comprised of four units as below:

Students studying Geography at GCSE will learn about contemporary global issues such as climate change, deforestation, immigration, and the population explosion. Students will also develop a range of skills such as map skills, ICT, data presentation, and data analysis. In Year 10 Students will attend a one day fieldtrip to collect data for their controlled assessment. Recent locations have included Avebury and Hengistbury Head.
