Media Studies, part of the English Faculty, is a GCSE subject taken by some students in years 10 and 11. They study film, TV, news, magazines, comics, pop music, advertising and radio. They study in detail the key concepts of audience, media language,, media institutions and media representations.
Media Studies is a vitally important subject in a technology driven society. Most of our understanding of the world, its wars, economic downturns, crime etc., originates from the media. Our views are shaped by TV news, newspapers and magazines. However, the Media is highly manipulative and has its own agendas far removed from simply reporting news. It is persuasive and pervasive. Education in this area is becoming essential to our society.
The following magazine advertisements were made by Year 11 Media Students. All photographs and manipulation acheived by the students alone.
