GCSE Dance
You may choose to study GCSE Dance because you love dancing, or perhaps you have already gained grades in ballet, modern or tap. Maybe you have experienced a street jazz performance or just have a positive approach to dance with new skills to learn. No matter what your dance history or experience you can achieve GCSE Dance. Remember that any experience you already have as a dancer is likely to be different from the work you will be doing towards a GCSE qualification. You will need to be prepared for new movements, in different styles, to those you already know.
The GCSE Performing Arts – Dance course includes both theory and practical sessions. There are four areas of study:-
1) Performance: This will include a study of
- good studio practice
- the technical nature of dance skills
- the expressive nature of dance skills
- factors which influence the achievement of high quality dance performance.
2) Choreography: This will include a study of
- the process of creating choreography
- choreographic structure
- constituent features of a dance.
3) Appreciation: This will include a study of
- analysis and interpretation of dances
- he historical and social context of dances
- the set work.
4) Set Work
- This is a dance that the exam board has set as a solo for every candidate in the country to perform for the final assessment. It counts for 20% of your overall grade.
