General

We offer our students at Key Stage 3 (KS3) and 4 (KS4) a broad, balanced and varied curriculum. Throughout KS3 students will study the core subjects of Maths, English and Science alongside Humanities (Geography, History, RE), ICT a Modern Foreign Language, PE, Music, Drama and Art.

Students are encouraged to work independently and to develop the skills to enable them to become more active, inquisitive and resourceful learners. Interactive technologies are utilised effectively across the school.

At KS4, students continue to study English, Maths, Science, RE, PE, ICT and DT. A suite of optional subjects is then made available and includes those offered at KS3 and additional subjects such as Business Studies. Careers guidance and support is integral to this process.

Some identified students will follow an alternative learning pathway which involves attendance at college courses and work experience placements alongside studying the core subjects in school.

Pupil Groupings
In year 7, SAT results are used to group children. Classes are organised to accommodate the needs of those children who require additional support. Maths and science create sets and review regularly. Where a child performs particularly well, or appears to be finding work difficult, there is opportunity to move between groups.

All tutor groups are mixed ability and gender.

Results
Kingsdown has enjoyed excellent GCSE results in recent years achieving the DCSF "School Achievement" standard for sustained improvement, and more recently joining the Specialist Schools Trust "Value Added Club".
